Cut-Out
Architecture - interior design
Graduation Project BA supervised by envisions
Exploring the transformative potential of knit.
Cut-out is a hanging textile entirely shaped from knit, whose structure transforms it into an architectural element. With its repetitive and geometric form, this interior façade displayed to be viewed on both sides invites viewers to engage with the medium as a mutable structure: sculptural, and spatial.
Through a process where I explore post-knitting transformations, I cut, fold, and open the fabric to give it properties like paper: cut-outs, verticality, and linearity. These manual interventions shift its function from a soft to a structural material that reveals both fragility and rigidity.
By using the widely practiced Fair Isle technique, the float stitches, usually hidden, become the central visual language of the piece, turning a technical constraint into a functional and expressive aesthetic.
